Joanna Johnson


Joanna Johnson is an American actress, writer, and producer best known for her roles as Caroline Spencer Forrester and her twin sister, Karen Spencer on the CBS daytime soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful. She is an executive producer and writer on the Freeform's drama series The Fosters.

Education

In 1983, Johnson graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in English literature.

Career

Johnson created the ABC sitcom Hope & Faith. The final episode aired on May 2, 2006.
Following the cancellation of Hope and Faith Johnson revealed in an interview with Gabrielle Winkel that she was working on other projects such as writing a comedy for Lifetime called Bad Bridemaids. In addition she has written several episodes of the ABC Family show Make It or Break It, for which she also served as co-executive producer.
Johnson reprised her role on The Bold and the Beautiful from April 28, 2009 to mid November 2009 as Karen Spencer, a role she played from 1991 to 1994, as well as Karen's twin Caroline Spencer from March 23, 1987 to early-July 1990 and again from late-December 2000 to January 5, 2001. Johnson returned to the role as Karen Spencer on July 22, 2011 and since March 28, 2012 she is on recurring status.
After leaving The Bold and The Beautiful, she took a stab at the music industry with her debut album Standing In My Rain. The record was published by Finnish label Sony Music Entertainment Oy.
Other behind-the-scenes credits boasted by Johnson are as associate producer on the Peter Berg film, Very Bad Things, starring Cameron Diaz and Jeremy Piven. Johnson also wrote the screenplay, The Shrink Is In, starring Courteney Cox and David Arquette.
Since 2013, she has been working as both an executive producer and writer on the ABC Family's The Fosters.

Personal life

In May 2012, Johnson came out as a lesbian during an interview with TV Guide. Having been in a relationship since 2003, Johnson married L.A. club promoter Michelle Agnew in 2008, during the four months same-sex marriage in California was recognized. They have an adopted son and an adopted daughter.
