William Singer

William Singer was the former alderman of the 44th and 43rd wards of Chicago. From 1969 to 1971 he represented the 44th ward on the North Side. His victory was by a razor-thin 427 votes. In a redrawn ward map, Singer served as alderman of the city's 43rd ward from 1971 to 1975. In 1972, he spearheaded a coalition of delegates to the Democratic national convention in Miami along with Jesse Jackson.
In 1975 he lost a run for mayor against Richard J. Daley. If elected mayor, Singer would have been the city's first Jewish mayor. Rahm Emanuel wound up being the city's first Jewish mayor.
