Walter FitzOther


Walter FitzOther son of Otho Gherandini. He was a feudal baron of Eton in Buckinghamshire and was Constable of Windsor Castle in Berkshire, a principal royal residence of King William the Conqueror, and was a tenant-in-chief of that king of 21 manors in the counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Surrey, Hampshire and Middlesex, as well as holding a further 17 manors as a mesne tenant in the same counties.

Origins

As the Fitz prefix to his surname suggests, Walter was the son of Otho Gherandini, an honorary baron of England.

Marriage and children

He married Gladys ap Conwyn, daughter of Rywallon ap Conwym, Prince of North Wales, by whom he had children including four sons as follows: However, the Abingdon Cartulary lists Walter's spouse as "Beatrice".
