The Ohio Valley Mall opened in October 1978, its original anchors were Montgomery Ward, Kaufmann's, J. C. Penney, Sears, and L.S. Good. Montgomery Ward closed in April 1983 and became Kmart in November 1983. The L.S.Good space closed in March 1982 later became Stone & Thomasin the summer of 1982, then Burlington Coat Factory, then Steve & Barry's, which closed in 2009 due to bankruptcy. Stone & Thomas moved to a larger location within the mall, and later the company was sold to Elder-Beerman in the 1996. Kaufmann's became Macy's in 2006. J.C. Penney moved to Triadelphia, West Virginia in 2007. It was replaced by Levin Furniture, while Crafts 2000, then Pat Catans replaced Steve & Barry's in 2010. Old Navy and Waldenbooks were among the stores that left the mall in 2009 and 2010. In 2012, Cafaro announced plans to renovate the mall's interior and add a new anchor store. The Ohio valley Mall is home to one of two last remaining Sam Goody stores in the country. Levin Furniture closed in 2012. In early 2013, it was confirmed that the space would be converted to Boscov's. It is the first and currently only Boscov's in Ohio. MC Sports also opened in the mall during 2013. Kmart and Elder Beerman closed in March 2017. MC Sports closed in April 2017 due to bankruptcy. Marshalls opened in September 2017 and took over half of the former Elder-Beerman. The other half was converted in April 2018 into Tilt Studio, a 25,000 square foot arcade with 100+ arcade and video games, bumper cars, 2-level laser tag, mini bowling, Himalaya ride, black light golf, J.P. Pepperoni restaurant, and party rooms. On June 30, 2018, Toys "R" Us closed its store permanently due to bankruptcy. hhgregg closed its store a year prior due to bankruptcy and was replaced by Levin's Furniture and Mattress. In early 2019, it was announced that a Chick-fil-A was opening by late 2019 while the former Montgomery Ward anchor store was demolished and a new Dunham's Sports store was built on that site along with the construction of a 4-story Hampton by Hilton next to Dunham's Sports. Dunham's Sports opened on November 1, 2019 and Hampton by Hilton will open in 2020. With Michael's purchasing Pat Catans in 2016 and subsequent announcement of Michael's closing or converting the remaining Catan stores into Michael's it is expected that this store would be converted instead of closed. Michaels opened on August 16, 2019. The former MC sports space is going to be a Veterans Belmont County Outpatient Clinic. Payless Shoesource closed its store in 2019 due to bankruptcy. On April 24, 2019, it was announced that Sears would be closing on July 7, 2019. On June 10, 2019, Oil and Gas Safety Supplies opened in place of the former Toys "R" Us space. On January 6, 2020, it was announced that Macy's would be closing as part of a plan to close 125 stores nationwide. The store closed in March 2020. Levin's Furniture closed in early March 2020 due to bankruptcy while Chick-Fil-A opened in March 2020. A Five Below is scheduled to open in the remaining former Kmart space in June 2020. Levin’s is being replaced by Ferguson Furniture in October 2020. It was also announced that Justice will be closing their doors for good!
