Kahawa

Kahawa is a suburb settlement traversing the Kiambu County and Nairobi County borders along Thika Road. Despite its proximity to the city, most of its parts are administratively in Ruiru. Kenyatta University is found in this area. The current member of parliament for the area is Simon King'ara. The region is represented by Hon. Cyrus Omondi and Livingstone Wakibia Waiganjo.

The Kahawa Region

Generally, the Kahawa region is subdivided as follows:
Kahawa Sukari, in Kiambu County.
Kahawa Wendani, entirely in Kiambu County.
Kahawa West, in Nairobi County's Roysambu Constituency.
It's safe to say that Kahawa is an inter-county settlement because it is shared by both Kiambu and Nairobi counties. This scenario is repeated across the Kabete and Ruaka/Runda, Gachie areas of the greater metro region.

Kahawa Barracks

The Kahawa Barracks area was the site of a British Army base before Kenya's independence and now hosts the Kahawa Army Base of Kenyan Army. Kahawa is home to Maguna's Wendani after the closure of Nakumatt.

Transport

Kahawa lies to the north of Githurai, a Nairobi suburb and settlement along the Kenya-Uganda Railway. In 2016, this town started to be served by suburban trains of the Nairobi rail service.
