Jeannette Chong-Aruldoss Jeannette Chong-Aruldoss is a lawyer and opposition politician from Singapore . She was previously a member of the Singapore People's Party from 2015 to 2019 and the National Solidarity Party from 2011 to 2015, serving as the NSP's Vice-President from June 2011 and then Secretary-General from October 2013 to January 2015. Prior that, she was a member of the Reform Party from 2009 to 2011.Education Chong-Aruldoss was educated at CHIJ Katong Convent , before going on to the University of Kent at Canterbury where she completed a bachelor's degree in Law in 1985. In 1987, she completed a Master's degree in Corporate & Commercial Law at the London School of Economics . She was called to the bar at Gray's Inn in 1986 and was admitted to the Singapore Bar in 1989.Career Chong-Aruldoss began her legal career at Allen & Gledhill LLP. In 2001, she co-founded Archilex Law Corporation. She is currently practising law at . Chong-Aruldoss is married to James Martin Aruldoss and they have four children.Political career Chong-Aruldoss joined the Reform Party in June 2009, but resigned on 18 February 2011 . In March 2011 , Chong-Aruldoss joined the National Solidarity Party. She stood as a candidate for the party at the 2011 general election in the Mountbatten Single Member Constituency against Lim Biow Chuan of the governing People's Action Party . Chong-Aruldoss garnered 8,436 votes and was defeated by Lim who won 11,965 votes. On 24 June 2011, Chong-Aruldoss was elected Vice-President of NSP, a position she held until on 27 October 2013 when she was elected the Secretary-General of NSP following the resignation of the previous Secretary-General, Hazel Poa , who stood down due to health reasons. In January 2015, Chong-Aruldoss decided not to re-stand for the position of Secretary-General at the Party's Central Executive Committee elections and instead challenged the incumbent, Sebastian Teo , for the position of President of the Party. However she was unsuccessful and Teo was re-elected as President while Tan Lam Siong was elected as Secretary-General. In February 2015, Chong-Aruldoss resigned from NSP. Subsequently, she joined the Singapore People's Party in April 2015 . At the 2015 general election , Chong-Aruldoss again stood in the single-member constituency of Mountbatten and again faced Lim Biow Chuan as the PAP candidate. Chong-Aruldoss took 5,992 votes with Lim taking 15,290. On 23 April 2017 , Chong-Aruldoss was elected to SPP's Central Executive Committee where she held the position of Vice-Chairman until her resignation on 2 September 2019 . In her Facebook on 4 September 2019 announcing her resignation, Chong-Aruldoss said she hoped to continue serving the cause of Singaporeans in one way or another . On 4 September 2019, Chong-Aruldoss told The Independent Singapore in an that she had "no plans to join another political party". On October, Chong-Aruldoss was seen volunteering with the Workers' Party members and volunteers around Eunos Crescent.
