Lim Biow Chuan


Lim Biow Chuan is a Singaporean politician who has served as Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore since January 2016 and the Member of Parliament for Mountbatten SMC since May 2011 and for Marine Parade GRC for Mountbatten from May 2006 to May 2011.

Education

Lim is an old boy of Victoria School and had his junior college education at Temasek Junior College. Lim received his tertiary education at the National University of Singapore, where he obtained a LL.B. He was a classmate of Workers' Party politician Sylvia Lim. In 1994, he became a founding partner of Tan Lim & Wong.

Career

Legal career

Lim is a lawyer and has been in legal practice since 1989. He is a senior partner in Derrick Wong & Lim BC LLP.

Political career

Lim first became an MP after the 2006 general elections, where his party, the PAP, was awarded a walkover as Marine Parade GRC was uncontested. He is the president of the Consumers Association of Singapore, the only politician on the central committee of the non-governmental organisation. Lim is also the Marine Parade Town Council Chairman.
In 2013, he was appointed as a member of Singapore's Data Protection Advisory Committee.
On 25 January 2016, he was assigned as the deputy speaker of the parliament.

Connection to Jack Neo controversy

At the height of the Jack Neo's extramarital affair scandal, Lim was misquoted by the press saying he showed support for Neo saying "Since he is remorseful over this incident, he should be forgiven. Actually, a man who has a good career development, like himself, would find such scenarios unavoidable". Lim later stated that he had been misquoted by the press.

Personal life

Lim is married and has two daughters. Lim has been serving as a church leader since 1993.
