Helga Pedersen (Denmark)


Inger Helga Pedersen was a Danish Chief Justice and politician. She served as Justice Minister of Denmark from 1950 to 1953 and was a member of the liberal party, Venstre.

Biography

Pedersen was born in Taarnborg and received her education at the University of Copenhagen and Columbia University. Her education at Columbia was funded by an International Study Grant from the American Association of University Women. Beginning in 1936, she worked for the Ministry of Justice. Following World War II, she was the Copenhagen District Court judge from 1947 to 1950. She was elected to the Parliament in 1950 and was appointed minister of justice. She continued to be a member of the parliament until 1964, during which time she was also a judge for the District Court and the Appeals Court. Then, she was appointed judge to the Supreme Court.
