Edmund Fielding


Edmund Fielding was a British Army officer.

Military career

Born the son of John Fielding, canon of Salisbury, Fielding served under John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough during the War of the Spanish Succession. He raised the 41st Regiment of Foot from independent companies of invalids in 1719. He was promoted to brigadier in 1727, major-general in 1735 and to lieutenant-general in 1739. He married Sarah Gould and they had two sons, Henry Fielding, who became an English novelist and dramatist, and Edmund Fielding, who served as an officer in the Royal Navy, and four daughters including the writer Sarah Fielding.
