Dream 100 is an Independent local radio station owned and operated by Bauer as part of the Greatest Hits Radio network. It broadcasts to Tendring and Essex

Overview

Dream 100 formerly broadcast 24 hours a day across north east Essex and south east Suffolk from Colchester. Since the inception of sister station Town 102 in Ipswich in 2006, Town 102 has taken over the South Suffolk broadcasting area, leaving Dream 100 to focus on North Essex.

History

The station has its roots as Mellow 1557 on 1557MW in 1990. On September 1, 1998, it was sold by Radio First to Tindle Radio Ltd and later in 1998 became an FM station. Former pirate radio DJ Bill Rollins has been at the Tendring station through its various evolutions, from day 1 in 1990.

Station rebrand

On 8 February 2019, Dream 100 and Celador's local radio stations were sold to Bauer. The sale was ratified in March 2020 following an inquiry by the Competition and Markets Authority.
On 27 May 2020, it was announced that Dream 100 will join Bauer's Greatest Hits Radio network.
On 13 July 2020, local programming outside weekday breakfast was replaced by networked output from the GHR network, with Dream 100 retaining its own branding.
In September 2020, the station will rebrand as Greatest Hits Radio and merge with its sister stations in the East. The station's local breakfast show will be replaced by a regional drivetime show. Localised news bulletins, traffic updates and advertising will be retained. The station's co-located studios with Town 102 in Ipswich will close.
