Dodie Clark


Dorothy Miranda "dodie" Clark is an English singer-songwriter, author, and YouTuber from Epping, Essex. Known for her light melodies juxtaposed by emotionally complex lyrics, Clark began her career performing piano and ukulele covers and has since shifted to her own original songs. She has over 160 videos, over 1.9M subscribers, and over 300 million views on her main channel. On her side channel, she has 350+ videos, over 900k subscribers, and over 129 million views.
On 9 December 2016, she released the first video on her Vevo channel, dodieVEVO, where she has over 11.8 million views and over 1 million subscribers. She has collaborated with many other musicians including Tessa Violet, Julia Nunes, Lauren Aquilina, Orla Gartland, Thomas Sanders, Jacob Collier, Emma Blackery, Pomplamoose, and Flashback. In 2018, Clark collaborated with singer Tom Walker on "Human", the lead single from her third EP of the same name.
Clark has released three independent EPs—Intertwined , You , and Human —all of which charted within the top 40 of the official UK Albums Chart.

Early life and education

Clark was born in Enfield, London, England. Her mother is Astrid Clark, and she has a younger sister Heather “Hedy”, who has been in some of her YouTube videos and later began a channel of her own, and an older brother Iain.
Clark attended The Leventhorpe School. After finishing school she moved to Bath, England with Jamie Jo, who is also a YouTuber and a painter.

Career

Dodie's first channel was called "Dodders5," now known as the "Alice and Dodie show!" which was created on 1 August 2007 and shared with her friend Alice Webb.
Clark's main channel "doddleoddle" was created on 7 February 2011; her first video on that channel, an original song called "Rain," was uploaded on 14 April that year. In addition to her main channel, Clark has a VEVO channel, "dodieVEVO", and a side channel, "doddlevloggle".
On 18 November 2016, Clark self-released her first EP, Intertwined. Despite its unsigned status, the EP reached number 35 on the official UK album charts during its first week of release.
Clark also co-hosted Coca-Cola's CokeTV alongside fellow YouTuber Manny Brown, where they took part in various activities.
Dodie's second EP, You, was released on 11 August 2017. In its opening week of release, the EP debuted at number 6 on the official UK Albums Chart—29 places higher than the peak of Intertwined, thereby marking a new personal best for Clark. It also debuted at number 55 on the US Billboard 200.
In June 2017, Dodie announced that she was writing a book. On 2 November 2017, Clark published her autobiographical book titled Secrets for the Mad: Obsessions, Confessions and Life Lessons.
Dodie has also been featured on lyric annotation website Genius where she analysed her single "Party Tattoos" and more recently, "Human" from the Human EP. In 2018, she was featured in a collaboration with Faultline, a cover of the song "All I Do Is Dream of You" which was featured in an advertising campaign by Audi in the United Kingdom.
On 18 September 2018, Dodie announced her third EP, entitled Human, which came out on 18 January 2019, with the title track being the lead single released on 21 September. The EP rose to number 5 on the official UK Albums Chart.
In a video uploaded on her vlog channel on 9 May 2019, Dodie announced that she was in the process of writing her first studio album.
In 2019, she also was a part of the Moominvalley soundtrack with a song titled Ready Now. Later that year she released a single called Guiltless, as well as a collaboration with Jacob Collier, with a cover of Here Comes the Sun. Following the release of her collaboration with Jacob Collier, she announced the release of a new single "Boys Like You" on 6 September. It was released on 27 September.
Dodie has also appeared on many prime-time radio shows including BBC Radio One where she has performed live as well as various interviews.

Touring

In 2014, Clark joined fellow YouTuber Bry on his national tour of the UK and rejoined him on his Australian and New Zealand tour in 2015. In January 2015, she supported Bethan Leadley on her UK Tour. She toured with Tessa Violet twice over the period of 2015–2016, as well as with Jon Cozart and Rusty Clanton in 2016.
She toured the UK for her EP, Intertwined, in March 2017, with Rusty Clanton as her opening act and Orla Gartland as her guitarist. Dodie also toured her You EP, during October 2017, again with Gartland. Dodie toured Europe in February and March 2018. She also had her 3rd UK tour, titled 'The Spring Tour', where she was supported by the acts Fenne Lily and Skinny Living. Dodie also frequently performs at YouTube-related and musical festival events. Dodie toured with Tessa Violet in the US in September 2018. She toured Europe and the UK for her EP Human in February and March 2019. Dodie started her US tour for her EP Human in September 2019, opening in Washington DC.
During these tours Dodie often involves herself in 'meet and greets' where she gives her fans the chance for a chat, photo and autograph. She has previously stated on Twitter and YouTube that she dislikes making fans pay to meet her and has said it isn't a "privilege" they should pay for.
Dodie has been quite outspoken about her mental health throughout her music and YouTube career, as well as her book. In one of her YouTube videos, she mentioned that she has been diagnosed with Depersonalization/Derealisation disorder, which "leaves sufferers feeling like they're not part of the world they live in". This disorder has led her to experience severe depression and anxiety, for which she has sought professional help. However, as the disorder is fairly difficult to treat and diagnose, Dodie has made it a point to raise awareness and informational resources to her audience.
On 29 October 2019, Dodie performed at Dingwalls in London in support of Unreal, a charity for depersonalisation/derealisation, along with other special guests.

Personal life

Clark is bisexual, and came out openly in 2016.
In 2018, Clark voiced her support for student-led political campaign group For our Future’s Sake, who advocate a People's Vote on the Brexit deal.
She currently lives in London with Hazel Hayes.
