De Dhakka


De Dhakka is a Marathi film released in India in 2008, inspired by the Hollywood film Little Miss Sunshine. It was remade in Kannada as Crazy Kutumba. The movie was directed by Sudesh Manjrekar and Atul Kale. The movie was said to have given a push to the business in Marathi film industry. Sanjay Dutt was chosen to play the father in the Hindi remake of the film.
Arati Ankalikar-Tikekar, the playback singer of the film, received the Maharashtra State Award, V Shantaram Award and Maharashtra Times award in the category of 'Best Playback singer'.

Plot

The story revolves around the Jadhav family. Makarand, after spending all his wealth, has invented an auto part which he claims will drastically lower the fuel consumption of vehicles. But being from a rural background and having no formal education, he is never taken seriously. Subhanrav, Makarand's father, leaves no opportunity to blame his son for selling all his land on failed pursuits. Sumi is Makarand's humble second wife. While the family is going through an economic crisis, a golden opportunity is presented when Makarand's daughter is selected for the final round of a dance competition with a huge prize money. The family scrapes their last resources and leaves on a life changing journey to reach the competition venue.

Cast

De Dhakka was a success at the box office. The movie garnered Rs. 40 million in its third week. Critics received the film well, noting the movie had a good storyline and performances.

Sequel

A sequel to the film, named De Dhakka 2 is under production. The sequel is directed by Mahesh Manjrekar and Sudesh Manjrekar, under the banner of Ameya Vinod Khopkar Entertainment and Skylink Entertainment.
