2021 New York City mayoral election

The 2021 New York City mayoral election will be held in November 2021. Incumbent Mayor Bill de Blasio is unable to run for a third term due to term limits. The election will be the first New York City mayoral election to use ranked-choice voting in the primaries.
Before official declarations, journalists and political commentators predicted several potential candidates, including Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., Council Speaker Corey Johnson, Comptroller Scott Stringer, and Public Advocate Jumaane Williams. By summer 2020, though, while many candidates have declared themselves for both major parties, most of them are first-time candidates who have never held political office rather than sitting elected officials.
