Zarza de Granadilla


Zarza de Granadilla is a Spanish municipality in Cáceres Province, Extremadura. Zarza de granadilla has a population of 1873.
Is situated at the north of the province of caceres, between the valley of the river Ambroz and Alagon. It limits with sotoserrano, the Gabriel y Galan reservoir, villar de plasencia, jarilla, casas del monte, lagunilla, abadia and granja de granadilla. It has a total area of 134 km2.

History

The history of zarza de granadilla is united to the granadilla history. The city of zarza de granadilla was founded in the fifteenth Century and it was called, simply, la zarza. The surname of granadilla was added to zarza when granadilla was expropriated to build the gabriel y galan reservoir. All the granadilla lands were given to la zarza unless the right margen of the river alagon
