Yun Doo-su


Yun Doo-su was Joseon Dynasty Politician, Poet, Writer, and Neo-Confucian philosophic scholar. He served as the Yeonguijeong during the reign of King Seonjo. His pen name was Oheum, courtesy name was Jaang. He was follower of Yi Hwang school among Westerners.

Birth

Yun Doo-su was born in 1533 at Hansung. His father was Yun Byeon, who was government official. His younger brother Yun Geun-su was also major politician during reign of King Seonjo and Gwanghae. His family origin is Haepyeong and his family progenitor was Yun Gun-jeong who served as Pan-gongbusa of Goryeo dynasty during era of Gojong of Goryeo and Wonjong.

Writings

As most intelligent mind of Neo-Confucian philosophy, he interacted with masters of Neo-Confucianism school, such as Seong Hon, Song Ik-pil, Yi I, and Yi Hwang.
Most of his writings are written during the Japanese invasions of Korea.
