William Carter (Queensland politician)


William Edward Carter was a publican and member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly.

Biography

Carter was born at Mount Morgan, Queensland, to parents Joseph Carter and his wife Clara Jane. He attended State Schools in Mount Morgan and Red Hill and from 1916 up until he entered politics he worked for Queensland Rail. After his retirement from politics he managed a hotel in Sydney from 1941 until 1967.
On the 9th Mar 1927 he married Margaret McNae. He died at Rosalie in 1969 and was buried at the Pinnaroo Lawn Cemetery.

Political career

Carter, for the CPNP, won the state seat of Fitzroy in 1929 but did not contest the seat in 1932.
