Wauconda Area Library

The Wauconda Area Library is a public library located in Wauconda, Illinois. The library district covers portions of Lake and McHenry Counties in Illinois and is a member of the Reaching Across Illinois Library System.

History

The library was founded in 1939 by the Wauconda Women's Club and became a township library in 1962. It became a public library district in 1988. Its newest location building opened in 1997. The library earned the Distinguished Building Award in 1998 from the American Institute of Architects.
In 2015, the library underwent a renovation of the interior of the building. This renovation project not only brought the library's interior up to date and made it look new again, but it set the stage for providing outstanding library services for the Wauconda Area community well into the future.
In 2019, the library updated the front entrance to be more accessible and modern. The concrete stairs and ramp were replaced with non-permeable pavers. The stairs are less steep with an additional landing, and are heated from underneath to prevent any build-up of ice or snow.
