Walter Tribe


Walter Harry Tribe, MA was Archdeacon of Lahore from 1885 to 1892.
He was educated at Wadham College, Oxford and ordained in 1857. After a Curacy at Broughton, Hampshire he was Rector of Stockbridge from 1860 to 1867. Following this he served in the North West Frontier. He was at, successively, Bareilly, Agra, Delhi, Allahabad, Sealkote, Rawalpindi and Simla before his time as Archdeacon. Afterwards he was the Chaplain at Algiers from 1894 to 1895 when he became Vicar of Awliscombe.
In 1861 he married Sophy Lander and they had two children: Charles who died during the First World War; and Mary a notable aviator and ornithologist.
