Umeå School of Architecture

Umeå School of Architecture was founded in 2009 as the fourth academic school in Sweden to provide a professional degree in architecture. It is part of Umeå University. Unlike the other Architectural Schools in Sweden, UMA has a spoken policy of sustainable development and integrated design, and aims to grow into "an international laboratory of experimental architectural development." The Danish architect Peter Kjaer is appointed rector for the school.
The five-year architectural programme started in fall 2009 at provisionary premises in central Umeå, but could before fall 2010 move to a new building by Danish architect firm Henning Larsen Architects, close to the Umeå Institute of Design and the Umeå Academy of Fine Arts at the Umeå Arts Campus. Master's degree programs will start in fall 2010.
