Uma Maheswara Ugra Roopasya


Uma Maheswara Ugra Roopasya, also known by the initialism UMUR, is a 2020 Indian Telugu-language comedy-drama film directed by Venkatesh Maha and starring Satyadev Kancharana, Naresh, Suhas, Raghavan, Hari Chandana and Roopa Koduvayur. The film is a remake of the Malayalam film Maheshinte Prathikaaram. The film premiered on Netflix on 30 July 2020.

Cast

This film is Venkatesh Maha's second directorial venture after C/o Kancharapalem. Satyadev Kancharana was signed to play the lead role. Bijibal, who composed the music for the original, composed the songs for the film. The film is produced by Shobu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni of Arka Media Works and Praveena Paruchuri, who previously worked on C/o Kancharapalem. The film was shot in the remote regions of Araku Valley. Debutantes Hari Chandana and Roopa Koduvayur play the lead actresses in the film.

Soundtrack

The songs are composed by Bijibal, who composed for the original film. The first single "Ningi Chutte" with lyrics by Viswa and performed by Vijay Yesudas was released on 6 March 2020. The second single "Anandam" was released on 6 July and featured lyrics by Rehman and vocals by Gowtham Bharadwaj and Soumya Ramakrishnan. The third single, "Rapavalu", was released on 13 July and has lyrics by Rahman and Raghukul Mokirala and is sung by Bijibal and Sangeetha Srikanth.

Release

The film was initially scheduled to release on 17 April 2020 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Producers then explored the option of releasing on digital platforms on 30 July instead of a traditional theatre release. Later in 30 July 2020, it was announced that the film would have a direct release on Netflix.

Critical reception

Hemanth Kumar of Firstpost praised Satydev's performance and opined that the film is a pleasant drama with a backdrop that’s rarely explored in Telugu cinema. Sowmya Rajendran of The News Minute stated that Uma Maheswara Ugra Roopasya is a "faithful remake" which retains the spirit of original. Neeshita Nyayapati of The Times of India rated the film three-and-half stars out of five and called it, "The sweetest tale of revenge you'll ever see."
