Controversies

On the 28th of May 2020, he called detractors of the government 'prophets of doom' as they represented labour and social organisations in a suo motu hearing by the Supreme Court of India on the plight of migrant workers during COVID-19 pandemic lockdown in India
. He also compared the journalists to vultures stating that they are like Kevin Carter who committed suicide after clicking the picture and getting Pulitzer for the same.. He called persons who have highlighted the plight of migrant workers and the unfolding of humanitarian crisis due to governmental actions in light of coronavirus as “prophets of doom” who “only spread negativity, negativity and negativity”, and who are “not showing any courtesy to the nation”.It was revealed that he quoted verbatim from false whatsapp forward.. Unknown to Tushar Mehta, Kevin Carter had chased away the bird after the picture. His speech in Supreme Court has been heavily criticised for being political and based on constitutional law.. Tushar Mehta blatantly lied to Supreme Court on 31 March by saying that there was no migrant workers walking on street. The Indian Express carried an editorial stating that the 'hectoring and bullying need to be called out — by the court too. That's judicial independence'.
