Toyo Tsutsuli


Toyo Tsutsuli is a Taiwanese indie singer, songwriter, and video artist. Because his past musical participation was focused on the market in Japan, his first name in Chinese was used as artist name in Japanese pronunciation. Toyo was born in a Taiwanese family but he is a Dutch origin from his mother's ancestry.

History

Toyo used to be signed by an entertainment agency in 2008 in Tokyo however he didn't debut. Until 2009, He started his solo musical activities on myspace as "Toyo Tsutsuli" officially.
After 2010, Toyo was involved in English pop music spans multiple genres from electronic and dance music to emotional ballads. At the same time his music projects also focus on the experiments with visual art. During 2010 and 2011, Toyo released two English albums "Surreal Party" and "NOUVEAU" which were both basically influenced by 1980s synthpop although many songs were characterized by Toyo's distinctive, soothing vocals and multi-layered synthesizer and string arrangements. Combined with his androgynous style, Toyo started to get noticed by occidental people and his music were also played on some indie radios in US and Europe. In 2012, Toyo released his best album "Lost Carnival" and announced for free downloading.
The visual art element can be seen in Toyo's music videos and photographs which were directed, shot and edited by Toyo himself. To date, Toyo has released three studio albums, seven music videos all of which have been released independently and produced by Toyo.
