Timo Meier


Timo Meier is a Swiss professional ice hockey player who plays for the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League. At the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, he was selected by the Sharks with the ninth overall pick.

Playing career

Major junior

In the 2012–13 season, Meier played in his native Switzerland at the Elite Jr. A level with the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers. Meier was selected 12th overall by the Halifax Mooseheads in the 2013 CHL Import Draft, and started playing with the Mooseheads in the 2013–14 season. He was named captain of the Mooseheads for the 2015–16 season a few weeks before the start of the season.
On 6 January 2016, Meier was traded to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in exchange for a first round pick in 2017, second round pick in 2017 and a fourth round pick in 2018.

Professional

Meier was selected ninth overall by the San Jose Sharks in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. On 8 July 2015, the Sharks signed Meier to a three-year entry level contract.
Meier made his NHL debut on 16 December 2016, at the Bell Centre against the Montreal Canadiens and scored his first goal that same day. Following the Sharks defeat in the 2018 Stanley Cup playoffs, Meier joined Team Switzerland at the 2018 IIHF World Championship.
He was re-signed by the Sharks to a four-year, $24 million contract on 1 July 2019. He scored his first hat-trick on 28 December 2019, in a 6–1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.
