Tierra Amarilla, Chile


Tierra Amarilla is a Chilean commune and city in Copiapó Province, Atacama Region. According to the 2012 census, the commune population was 12,898 and has an area of 11,191 km².

Demographics

According to the 2002 census of the National Statistics Institute, Tierra Amarilla had 12,888 inhabitants. Of these, 8,578 lived in urban areas and 4,310 in rural areas. The population grew by 9.9% between the 1992 and 2002 censuses.

Administration

As a commune, Tierra Amarilla is a third-level administrative division of Chile administered by a municipal council, headed by an alcalde who is directly elected every four years.
Within the electoral divisions of Chile, Tierra Amarilla is represented in the Chamber of Deputies by Mr. Alberto Robles and Mr. Giovanni Calderón as part of the 6th electoral district,. The commune is represented in the Senate by Isabel Allende Bussi and Baldo Prokurica Prokurica as part of the 3rd senatorial constituency.
