The New Wave (instrumental)

"The New Wave" is an instrumental track by Daft Punk, released as their first single in 1994 on the Soma Recordings label. It was later released the same year on the UMM label under license from Soma Recordings. Though it was originally a standalone single, the track "The New Wave" eventually evolved into "Alive", which appeared on their debut studio album Homework.

Background

In September 1993, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo presented a demo of their electronic music to DJ Stuart Macmillan at a rave at EuroDisney. Bangalter recalled that the meeting had been a surprise, as they were fans of Macmillan's DJing and just wanted him to hear the duo's music. "But he liked it and so we did some more music tracks and here we are." The tracks were released as "The New Wave" under the Soma label co-founded by Macmillan's band Slam.
