The Magdala

The Magdala, also known as Magdala Tavern or colloquially as simply The Magy, was a public house on South Hill Park in Hampstead and was named after the British victory in the Battle of Magdala.
It later became famous as the pub where Ruth Ellis, the last woman to be executed in Great Britain, shot her boyfriend in 1955.
The Magdala closed in February 2016, and the upper floors were converted to flats. The pub is listed as an Asset of Community Value. There is ongoing debate about its future.
