Terry McLaughlin


Terence "Terry" McLaughlin is a Canadian
sailor who has competed in the Olympics.

Biography

McLaughlin was born July 24, 1956 in Toronto, Ontario to Paul McLaughlin, who competed in the 1948 Olympic dinghy regatta. He is the brother of Frank McLaughlin, who won a bronze medal in the Flying Dutchman class at the 1988 Summer Olympics.
McLaughlin attended St. Michael's College School and then majored in Economics at Queen's University.
McLaughlin was to compete in the Moscow 1980 Summer Olympics but did not, due to the boycott of the event by western countries.
McLaughlin won a silver medal in the Flying
Dutchman Class at the Los Angeles 1984 Summer Olympics with Evert Bastet.
McLaughlin has won the York Cup match-racing series five times.
McLaughlin skippered Canada One in the 1983 Louis Vuitton Cup.
McLaughlin skippered Defiant, out of RCYC, to win both the 2001 and 2003 editions of the Canada's Cup.
McLaughlin was the 2001 Rolex Sailor of the Year.
McLaughlin skippered the Royal Canadian Yacht Club Swan 42 yacht Daring to win the 2011 and 2013 New York Yacht Club Invitational Cups and the 2013 Swan 42 National Championships. As a result, he won the 2013 Sail Canada Rolex Sailor of the Year.
