Tempe station (Arizona)

Tempe station is a former train station in Tempe, Arizona. Previously, Amtrak's Sunset Limited and Texas Eagle trains stopped at the station, but they were shifted to a more southerly route in June 1996. Since 2017, the station has been reconnected to the train lines by Amtrak's Stagecoach Express Thruway Motorcoach line. The bus connects Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and Tempe station to the current routes of the Sunset Limited and Texas Eagle trains at Maricopa station.

History

The Southern Pacific Railroad built the depot in 1924. The city purchased the building and in 1987 renovated it; the building now houses Macayo's Depot Cantina, a renowned Mexican restaurant. The Sunset Limited and Texas Eagle served this location from the 1987 renovation until 3 June 1996. Valley Metro Rail trains serve a new station one block east of the depot.
