Tamilaruvi Manian


Tamilaruvi Manian is a politician from Tamil Nadu. He is a writer and a well known speaker in Tamil. Because of his oratory skills the former chief minister of Tamil Nadu Kamaraj gave him the name Tamilaruvi.

Political career

Tamilaruvi Manian began his political career as a congressman in 1966. After the Indian National Congress party split, he joined the Indian National Congress. For some years, he served in political parties like Janata Party, Janata Dal, and Lok Shakti. He then joined the Tamil Maanila Congress. After the merger of TMC with Congress, he continued his career in Congress. He served in politics for over 40 years. He resigned from the post of General Secretary of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee on 23 February 2009 because of the party's position on the Eelam Tamil issue. He founded the Gandhiya Arasiyal Iyakkam on 2 October 2009 which was later renamed the Gandhiya Makkal Iyakkam. In 2014, he converted his organisation into a political party GMI.
