Tacitus (horse)


Tacitus is an American Thoroughbred racehorse and the winner of the 2019 Tampa Bay Derby.

Career

2018: two-year-old season
Tacitus' first race was a maiden special weight on October 4th, 2018 at Belmont Park, where he placed 4th.
He captured his first win on November 10th, 2018 in another maiden special weight at Aqueduct Racetrack.
2019: three-year-old season
Tacitus picked up his first graded win by winning the 2019 Tampa Bay Derby on March 9th, and then won the 2019 Wood Memorial Stakes on April 6th.
His wins in the Tampa Bay Derby and the Wood Memorial Stakes helped him gain points in the 2019 Road to the Kentucky Derby and ultimately, gained him a spot in the 2019 Kentucky Derby.
In the 2019 Kentucky Derby, Tacitus crossed the finish line fourth but placed 3rd after the disqualification of Maximum Security.. Tacitus also gained entry to the 2019 Belmont Stakes, where he finished 2nd.
Tacitus finished out his three-year-old season with second-place finishes in the Jim Dandy Stakes and Travers Stakes, and a third-place finish in the Jockey Club Gold Cup.
2020: four-year-old season
As a four-year-old, Tacitus came fifth in the Saudi Cup and fourth in the Oaklawn Handicap. Later, he captured the Suburban Stakes by eight lengths in July of 2020.
