Svinjsko

Svinjsko is a dispersed settlement in the hills west of Šentjanž in the Municipality of Sevnica in east-central Slovenia. Traditionally the area was part of the historical region of Lower Carniola. The municipality is now included in the Lower Sava Statistical Region.

Name

The settlement was attested in written sources in 1136 as Swinge. The name Svinje is believed to derive from the Slovene common noun svinja 'pig', referring to the fact that pigs were raised in the settlement. See also Sinja Gorica, Svino, Vinje pri Moravčah, and Zavino for similar names.
