Suzanne O'Sullivan
Suzanne O'Sullivan is an Irish neurologist working in Britain who is the winner of the 2016 Wellcome Book Prize. She won for her first book, It's All in Your Head: True Stories of Imaginary Illness, published by Chatto & Windus in 2015. The book also won the Royal Society of Biology General Book Prize.
O'Sullivan is from Dublin, and studied medicine at Trinity College Dublin. She is a consultant neurologist at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London. O'Sullivan completed an MA in creative writing at Birkbeck College, University of London, in November 2015.
She was interviewed on BBC Radio 4 in November, 2018, in the series The Life Scientific. She appears regularly at events such as the Hay Literary Festival.
In 2018, her second book “Brainstorm: Detective Stories from the World of Neurology” was published by Chatto & Windus.
Also in 2018, she won the AITO Travel Writer of the Year award.
In October 2019 ‘Brainstorm; Detective Stories from the World of Neurology’ was shortlisted for the Stockport Grammar School ‘Health Matters Book Prize’.
