Sue Lewis Robinson


Sue Lewis Robinson is a former United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Delaware.

Education and career

Born in Mount Carmel, Illinois, Robinson received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Delaware in 1974 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1978. She was in private practice in Wilmington, Delaware from 1978 to 1983. She was an Assistant United States Attorney of the District of Delaware from 1983 to 1988.

Federal judicial service

Robinson was a United States Magistrate Judge of the District of Delaware from 1988 to 1991. On October 1, 1991, Robinson was nominated by President George H. W. Bush to a seat on the United States District Court for the District of Delaware vacated by Judge Jane Richards Roth. Robinson was confirmed by the United States Senate on November 15, 1991, and received her commission on November 18, 1991. She served as Chief Judge from 2000 to 2007. She assumed senior status on February 3, 2017. She retired from active service on July 14, 2017.
