Etymology

The name Suchacz is from the German name Succase and is likely further derived from the Old Croatian word sucks, meaning "fish", but could also be the name of a Prussian settler. The settlement was also recorded with the name Sucase or Suckase. On a map issued from Amsterdam in 1640, Swedish cartographer Olao Ioannis Gotho named the settlement Fischerbud.
