Stupidedia

Stupidedia is a German-language wiki featuring satirically themed and humorous articles. Stupidedia is the largest German-language wiki of this kind, with over 22,412 articles as of 2014. It uses MediaWiki software, like many other wikis. Some articles of celebrities which are considered overly offensive, such as their article on Heino or Bushido, have been blocked. The wiki has been closed for new users since 31 January 2018.

Competitions and projects

Hammer articles

So-called hammer articles were introduced in 2006. They were suggested by users, then voted on and finally awarded with a hammer. Starting in August 2012 it was also possible to award articles as gelungene Artikel. Stupidedia's dictators were entitled to award some hammer articles as Goldpokalartikel via an internal vote amongst the websites dictators. Any article that was recognized as outstanding by the community and had been added to the hall of fame was then featured on the homepage.

Stupid contest

The community regularly hosted the stupid contest. The competition consisted of users having to submit articles on selected topics. The jury, which was made up of particularly active users, scored the articles in different categories like humor, language and layout. The stupid contest was typically held every two months and was meant to help create high quality articles.

Stupid Art Contest

Other than that, Stupidedia also hosted the Stupid Art Contest, where many images and photo montages were voted on. The contest tried to reach out for a big range of hobby artists for two reasons: Firstly, using their images on Stupidedia would circumvent the problem of depicting images with unknown copyright sources. And secondly, reason was to create a certain artistic uniqueness of Stupidedia.

Stub des Monats

Another contest was called Stub des Monats. The contest used to be hosted each month. Participants had to submit an edited version of an article that was originally either too short or registered on the list of the quality campaign due to heavy content-related issues. The general participation in the stub contest was most of the time lower than in the Stupid Contest. Each monthly winner was elected by Stupidedia users.

Mini Contest

Starting in summer 2012, a mini-contest was introduced aside from the Stupid Contest, though it was not given as much attention. The mini-contest was held irregularly and each contest edition introduced a specific topic that participants had to comply with.

Article duel

The article duel was an opportunity for authors to compete against each other to award the best article. Two authors chose one article each, with which they wanted to compete and then determined a deadline for their work. Following this, every user of Stupidedia was able to vote for the article they liked most. The article with the most votes was nominated as the winner of the duel.

Stupid literature contest

The Stupid Literature Contest was held irregularly. The topic was created in a way that the authors could fill the German: Diverses-Namensraum with their articles. The contributions were later evaluated by a jury.

Interwiki contest

The first Interwiki contest was hosted from August 2012 to September 2012. In contrary to the Stupid contest, Stupidedia now allowed their competition to join - Wikis and :de:Uncyclopedia|Uncyclopedia. However, this contest was stopped because of the shortage of members from other Wikis.

Miscellaneous

Stupidedia also attracted attention by parodying certain events from world affairs in a large project consisting of several articles. For example, the Iraq war was portrayed in the category named Spiegelwelten as an “Oceania conflict”. The most comprehensive large-scale project of this kind was the parody of the 2008 European Football Championship, which was parodied in the Stupidedia as the 2008 The Football Championship of the Universe. This was organized and published - from fictional states and their teams - down to the smallest detail by the individual authors. A second edition under the title The Football Championship of the Universe 2010 took place in parallel to the 2010 FIFA World Cup and a third championship was held parallel to the 2012 European Championship.
According to the satirical self-portrayal of Stupidedia, it is, in fact, Wikipedia which is a parody of Stupidedia.
Starting in 2014 there was a project named Stupidedia hilft!, where users can ask all kinds of questions and have experts from Stupidedia answer them in a satirical manner.
