Stop the Rock


"Stop the Rock" is a 1999 single by the British group Apollo 440. It appeared on the album Gettin' High on Your Own Supply and has been described as the group's breakout single.

Composition and recording

The song was inspired by Status Quo's "Caroline". The lead vocal was performed by Ian Hoxley, formerly of Gaye Bykers on Acid. Trevor Gray, Howard Gray, Ian Hoxley and Noko are credited as composers of the song.

Release

The single was released on 16 August 1999 through Stealth Sonic and distributed by Sony Music. It was included on the soundtracks to FIFA 2000, Cars Mater-National Championship, Gone in 60 Seconds, Boys and Girls, Bedazzled and the Australian independent film Cut. The Mint Royale mix version of the song was featured in the video game . It was also used in the trailer for Disaster Movie and in Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2007. In 2014 it was used for the Kia Sportage TV ad.
The song spent 6 weeks on the UK singles chart, peaking at No. 10.
