Steven Machat


Steven Machat is an American entertainment mogul. Among many other successful music related projects he produced Bird on a Wire, the documentary film of the Leonard Cohen 1972 European tour.

Biography

Machat was born in Manhattan, New York. His father, entertainment lawyer Marty Machat was known for representing artists such as Phil Spector, Sam Cooke and The Rolling Stones. He attended University of Miami as an undergraduate, where he studied accounting, and then attended Vanderbilt University Law School.He started his commercial career in 1978 with his father in New York, Los Angeles and London.
Machat has been a worldwide entertainment attorney, music publisher, manager of music talent and record label owner as well as film producer among other commercial endeavors. His clients have included Electric Light Orchestra, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Ready for the World, Leonard Cohen, Phil Spector, Stacey Jackson, Snoop Dogg, New Edition, Bobby Brown, Manu DiBango, Gamble and Huff, Soft Cell, The The, Ozzy Osbourne, Hugh Masakela and Visage as well as artists from all over the world. In addition he produced an album with the Dali Lama entitled Hope and another with Pope John II.
Steven Machat has produced and/or served music producer on many films including the aforementioned Bird On A Wire, Street Fighter, Anaconda, The Stud, Mega Man, Xanadu, Judge Dread, Caught, Shadow Conspiracy, Warriors of Virtue, This World Then The Fireworks, Bully, Frailty, Splinter, One Long Night, Make America White Again and in 2020 Saving The Motherland. For television Paper Dolls, Racin’ for a Livin’, Michael Jackson - The Inside Story:What Killed The King of Pop, Led Zeppelin- Dazed and Confused and Lady Gaga-One Sequin At A Time. Theatrical productions have included the West End production of Elvis as well as Private Lives with Elizabeth Taylor
Steven Machat has published many books including Highways of Man - The Odyssey Almanac, Man - Community and Living The American Dream, Sacred Knowledge - A Rock’n’Rollers Guide to Higher Consciousness, Spiritual Insomnia, The Book of Earth - The Colonization of Earth and The Making of Man and The Creation of Ozzy - From The Alters of his Black Sabbath . Effectively an autobiography Machat wrote the book Gods, Gangsters and Honour, filled with stories about the celebrities he worked for. Machat wrote the book to share the light he discovered handling the careers of many of the top icons of the music industry. It is often compared favorably with Hitmen, a book Steven is referenced in.
Machat lectures across Europe and the United Kingdom at universities, including both Oxford University and Cambridge University, as well as at musical festivals and book fairs around the world.
Steven was co-founder of the record label Hippos in Tanks, a top independent electronic label, with his son Barron before his untimely passing in 2015.
In 2016 Machat ran for US Senate in the state of Florida and in 2018 for the US Congress to represent the 26th District in Florida.
In 2019 Machat launched the School of Sacred Knowledge dedicated to the creation of ideas to help the world to become conscious of what we are and what we are can achieve when we come together in unison. The school will be based at The Farm in Summerville, Tennessee.
