Statue of Jeff Goldblum

In July 2018, a statue of American actor Jeff Goldblum was erected in London by Now TV to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the film Jurassic Park. The, statue, installed in Potters Fields Park near Tower Bridge, depicts Goldblum as the character Dr. Ian Malcolm, recreating a scene from the film by reclining with his shirt open. The artwork was installed from July 18 to July 26, 2018.

Reception

Nicknames for the statue, which took 250 hours to complete, include "Jurassic Jeff" or "Tyrannasaurus Pecs". Deadline Hollywood Andreas Wiseman said the sculpture was "bizarre" and "puzzling and wowing tourists and locals alike".
Drew Schwartz of Vice News wrote, "It was an audacious move on the artist's part to even try to recreate such an impeccable expression of the human form, but the risk paid off. No detail was spared: The stubble is perfectly rendered, so subtle you'd miss it if you didn't take a closer look. His hand hangs loose from the wrist in that quintessentially Goldblum-ian attitude of effortlessness, of ease with the self. And those eyes: They gleam with a confluence of fear and knowledge—a mirror image of the look Goldblum flashed the camera just after Dr. Malcolm nearly lost his life to a T. Rex." Furthermore, he wrote, "If the city of London has a lick of goddamn sense, it'll keep the monument there for all eternity—maybe even consecrating it as a national landmark. Sure, Goldblum isn't British, and no, Jurassic Park has nothing to do with England, but just look at that masterpiece: the fleshy bulb of the nipple, the furrows of the chest hair, the pinnacle of what a human face can be."
Goldblum did not see the sculpture in person, but said: "It was lovely, I liked that whole statue. I don't know what it looked like in the flesh, or in the concrete, I didn't see it. I saw pictures of it. I think they took it down, but isn't it making a tour, of some kind? Like the treasures of the tomb of King Tutankhamun? I hope so. I hope everybody gets the chance to see it at one point or another." He rated the artwork "10/10 Goldblums".
