A starred review is a term used in book reviews to denote a book of distinction or particularly high quality. A starred review can help to increase sales of a book. Kirkus Reviews faced criticism in 2017 after it removed its starred review from American Heart by Laura Moriarty after criticism was leveled at the book for having a white savior narrative.
