Sony Ten


Sony Ten is an Indian pay TV sports network owned by Sony Pictures Sports Networks. It broadcasts cricket, association football, golf, basketball, tennis, MMA and wrestling events. It was launched in 1 April 2002. Sony Pictures Networks acquired the channels from Zee Entertainment.
Sachin Tendulkar is the brand ambassador of Sony India's sports channels.

History

In January 2001, Taj Television was established in Dubai Media City. The company launched Ten Sports on 1 April 2002.
In 2005, Zee Entertainment Enterprises launched Zee Sports as their 24-hour sports broadcasting network. Later, in November 2006, Zee acquired Taj Television as a subsidiary. Zee Sports was rebranded to Ten Action in 2010, which featured adventures sports and non-cricket content such as tennis and football. Ten also launched a separate feed for Pakistan.
In August 2016, Zee's CEO Subash Chandra announced that the company was negotiating with Sony Pictures Networks to sell its sports channel bouquet. The agreement was signed in September 2016 and the acquisition was planned to be two-phased. With the completion of the first phase of the purchase, Sony expanded its Indian sports network to 9 channels. With the completion of second phase, Sony gained access to sports channels owned by Zee outside India. On 18 July 2017, the channels were rebranded under the Sony umbrella with the "Sony" brand attached as a prefix on the sports channels, in addition with the launch of the HD simulcasts.

Sony Ten 1

It broadcasts events from the World Athletics Championships, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and Sukma Games. Its programming schedule also consists on live coverage of the tennis,rallying, horse racing, beach volleyball events and basketball. WWE Raw and WWE SmackDown are currently broadcast live weekly, along with NXT, Main Event, WWE Sunday Dhamaal and monthly pay-per-view specials.

Sony Ten 2

It broadcasts football matches from European football leagues and events of biggest MMA promotion in the world.
In addition, football panelists frlive and exclusive on their channel across the world share their insights on the upcoming live matches, football updates on the channel on its show Football Extra.

Sony Ten 3

It airs cricket matches from the Pakistan, Sri Lanka, England, Australia and South Africa boards. It also broadcasts football matches.

Sony Six

Sony Sports owns long term broadcast rights for the cricket boards of Australia, England, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka.
Its Pakistani feed broadcasts original content from Dubai Media City headquarters and cricket matches of International Cricket Council, Asian Cricket Council. Ten Sports Pakistan, although having the same brand as its Indian sister channel, does not air simulcast programming from Sony Sports channels.

Sony Ten Golf

It was an HD, golf-focused channel launched on 7 October 2015. It had the broadcasting rights to the European Tour, Asian Tour, Ryder Cup, LPGA Tour, Royal Trophy, US PGA Championship, Senior PGA Championship, Professional Golf Tour of India, and Ladies European Tour.
The channel was closed on 31st December 2018.

Sony ESPN

Launched as Sony Kix on 8 April 2015 by what is now Sony Pictures Networks India, it was the second sports television channel launched by the company after Sony Six. The channel was rebranded as Sony ESPN on 17 January 2016. The partnership with ESPN was made official in October 2015. Sony and ESPN would partner together on website and app efforts, with ESPN providing and producing content such as cricket, football, tennis, basketball, badminton, field hockey, golf, rugby union, motorsport along with other events. Sony Six and Sony ESPN, which were launched before Sony's purchase of Ten, effectively became part of the group when the acquisition was completed. Both SD and HD versions of Sony ESPN were shut down on 31 March 2020.
