Smeldingi

The Smeldingi was a northwestern Slavic tribe mentioned in 9th-century sources. They were one of four constituent tribes of the Vistulans, along with the Linonen, Bethenici and Morizani. They lived east of the Elbe river. Obotrite prince Thrasco laid waste to their capital, and Frankish prince Charles the Younger unsuccessfully campaigned against the Linonen and Smeldingi in 808.
