Smail Prevljak


Smail Prevljak is a Bosnian professional footballer who plays as a forward for Austrian Bundesliga club Red Bull Salzburg and the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team.
Prevljak started his professional career at RB Leipzig, before joining Red Bull Salzburg in 2014. Later that year, he was assigned to Liefering. He was loaned to Mattersburg in 2017 and to Eupen in 2020.
A former youth international for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Prevljak made his senior international debut in 2018.

Club career

Early career

Prevljak started playing football at a local club Igman Konjic, before joining RB Leipzig's youth academy in 2013. He made his professional debut playing for RB Leipzig II away at Fortuna Chemnitz on 24 May 2014 at the age of 19. A week later, he scored his first professional goal against FC Eilenburg.

Red Bull Salzburg

Prevljak was loaned to Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg in August 2014. He made his official debut for the team on 9 November 2014 against Altach.
In September 2014, Prevljak was assigned to Red Bull Salzburg's feeder club Liefering. On 27 May 2015, Prevljak was voted the best young player of the season in Austrian Second League. On 6 November 2015, he scored first hat-trick of his career against FAC.
Prevljak's move to Red Bull Salzburg was made permanent in June 2015. He scored his first goal for the team against Austria Wien on 23 August.
In April 2016, Prevljak tore anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee, which sidelined him for almost ten months.
In June 2017, he was sent on a season-long loan to Mattersburg.
After a successful loan spell, Prevljak returned to Red Bull Salzburg, with whom he signed a new contract until June 2022. On 16 December 2018, he scored four goals in a high victory over St. Pölten. Prevljak won his first trophy with the club on 1 May 2019, by beating Rapid Wien in Austrian Cup final.
In January 2020, he was loaned to Belgian outfit Eupen until the end of season.

International career

Prevljak was a member of Bosnia and Herzegovina under-21 team under coach Darko Nestorović.
In March 2018, he received his first senior call-up, for friendly games against Bulgaria and Senegal. Prevljak debuted in an away win over former on 23 March.

Personal life

Prevljak married his long-time girlfriend Nejra in March 2017.
