Si Phraya Subdistrict


Si Phraya is a khwaeng of Bang Rak District, Bangkok. This area is the location of Bang Rak District Office.

History

This area is named after Si Phraya Road, that runs through northern part of the area. Its name meaning "four phraya" in honour of four Thai nobles who were in this rank that gathered together to construct this road during the reign of King Chulalongkorn and was named by the king.
It is a road that runs a direct route from Si Phraya Pier to an end at Sam Yan Intersection, where it combines Rama IV and Phaya Thai Roads, as well as the location of the ancient third class royal temple Wat Hua Lamphong, with total distance is 1,645 m.
The entrance of Captain Bush Lane, located in this subdistrict in the year 1947, was the site of first branch of Central Department Store. It was operated by Tiang Chirathivat who moved from a grocery store from Bang Khun Thian District in Thonburi side.
The Bang Rak District Office was built in May 1969 with a budget of 800,000 baht and was completed and available to the public in the following years.
The beginning of the road also the terminal of BMTA's bus lines: 36, 45, 93.
Since it is a historic road, making it the location of many beautiful antique houses and buildings as well.

Geography

The area is bordered by the four subdistricts : Maha Phruettharam in its district, Pathum Wan of Pathum Wan District, Suriyawong in its district, and Bang Rak in its district, respectively.
Sap and Naret are the minor roads.
