Server Technology was founded in 1984, and by 1987 had grown large enough to acquire CrossPoint Systems, a manufacturer of PC data switches. In 1990, Server Technology introduced its first power and network control products. Server Technology currently has 170+ employees with 16 offices worldwide. In 2017 Legrand acquired Server Technology.
Products
HDOT Cx PDU
The HDOT has been improved with the Cx outlet offered from Server Technology. The Cx outlet is a hybrid of C13 and C19 outlets. The HDOT Cx accommodates both C20 and C14 plugs. This design reduces the complexity of the selection process while lowering end costs meaning you won't have to buy a new set of PDUs when equipment changes.
HDOT PDU
High-density outlet PDU's feature a 20 percent increase in outlet density compared to traditional PDU's in the same form factor. Server Technology offers a configuration tool that allows customers to build custom smart HDOT PDU's tailored to end user needs including number of outlets desired and outlet locations.
PRO2 PDU
The PRO2 series represents another evolution in PDU design with a shallower form-factor, enhanced power monitoring capabilities, a more intuitive software power model, expanded configuration capabilities and faster processing. This platform includes network card enhancements such as Star Multi-Linking, which allows four individual units to be managed using one IP address.
Basic and Metered PDU
Basic PDU's are entry level units that provide reliable power distribution. Metered units contain all the features of a basic unit plus a visible current meters.
Smart and Switched PDU
Smart PDU's are commercially available network managed PDU's that add visible current metering, remote accessible power and environmental monitoring. Switched units contain all the features of a Smart unit plus the ability to control individual outlets along with other control features such as load shedding.
PIPS and POPS
Per-Inlet-Power-Sensing is an enhancement that monitors cord, line and phase power metrics on a PDU's power cord. Per-Outlet-Power-Sensing is an enhancement that monitors power metrics for individual PDU outlets. These features are only available on network managed products such as Smart and Switched products.
−48 VDC PDU
The Sentry Switched −48 VDC Power Distribution Unit family includes switched products which provide fuse protected, reliable power distribution for routers, servers, and other network devices for mission critical networks in a telecom environment. All Switched −48 VDC PDUs also provide per-output current sensing.
Patents
Server Technology claims to have the largest patent library regarding power provision in zero-U and horizontal power distribution unit configurations compatible with today's racks and dense computing infrastructure requirements. The company has been granted at least 48 patents and has at least 54 pending. In June 2014, a Reno, Nevada jury awarded Server Technology, Inc. damages totaling $10,787,634 in an action for patent infringement brought against American Power Conversion Corporation, a subsidiary of Schneider Electric SA. The Server Technology patents in suit are US Patent No. 7,043,543 issued May 9, 2006, and US Patent No. 7,702,771 issued April 20, 2010. This finding was overturned in the US Federal Court of Appeals in September 2016. The complaint was filed in United States District Court for the Northern District of Nevada in December 2006. In February 2007, APC was acquired by Schneider Electric SA headquartered in Rueil‐Malmaison, France. The jury found APC's AP7900 series and AP8900 series vertical, switched Power Distribution Units infringed both of the Server Technology patents. On September 23, 2016, The US Federal Circuit Court of Appeals reversed the June 2014 Award and found that APC/Schneider Electric did not infringe upon the Server Technology patents.
