Sergei Vershinin


Sergey Vasilyevich Vershinin is a Russian politician and diplomat. He is the current Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of Syrian affairs. He was appointed Deputy Minister on 27 March 2018.

Education

Vershinin attended Moscow State Institute of International Relations in 1976 where he studied International relations. In 1991 he also studied Diplomacy in the same university.

Career

Sergei Vershinin began his career working in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1986 where he served in several diplomatic missions abroad. In 1993, he was appointed Counselor-Ambassador of the Russian embassy in the Republic of Tunisia. After serving as counselor ambassador, in 1997 he was appointed Head of the Department of the Middle East and North Africa Foreign Ministry in the Russian Federation.
In 31 December 1999 he was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia in Algeria. Vershinin has since remained Ambassador of Russia.
On 27 March 2018 he was appointed Deputy Minister of Russia in charge of Syrian affairs by President Vladimir Putin.
