Scott Steindorff


Robert Scott Steindorff is an American film and television producer who specializes in adapting literary bestsellers into movies.

Early life

Steindorff was born in Stillwater, Minnesota. He studied Theatre Production and Real Estate Finance at the Arizona State University
Scott Steindorff began his career as a competitive skier, but an injury led him off course and as a result, he got into the arts. While in school, Scott became involved in theatre and performance developing his sense of storytelling and love for books.
After a stint of working with his father in the family business, Scott later was a business consultant for Caesars Palace and the Forum shops for Melvin Simon. Afterwards, he wrote the stageplay for EFX at the MGM Grand. He moved to Hollywood to write and concentrate on producing full-time and established his own production company in 1998.

Stone Village Productions

In 1998, Steindorff joined with Las Vegas business-people Andrew Molasky, Robin Greenspun and Danny Greenspun to form the film production company Stone Village Pictures, LLC. Recently, he formed Scott Pictures International which produced "Jane Got a Gun," starring Natalie Portman, Joel Edgerton and Ewan McGregor.
Stone Village Productions is an independent film & television finance and production company. Scott is committed to bringing strong stories with broad commercial appeal to the screen and ensuring that Stone Village will grow and evolve while making a lasting contribution to the entertainment industry. Steindorff is well-known in the industry as the “Hollywood Book Man” for acquiring and adapting literary properties, and delivering commercially successful and award-winning television series and films.
Steindorff Produced the forthcoming western Jane Got a Gun, starring Natalie Portman, Joel Edgerton and Ewan McGregor, set to be released by Relativity Media and the Weinstein Company in September 2015. Steindorff was Executive Producer on John Favreau’s “Chef”, released by Open Road, starring Jon Favreau, Scarlett Johansson, Sofia Vergara, Robert Downey Jr., Dustin Hoffman, Bobby Cannavale and John Leguizamo. Steindorff produced the critical and commercial success THE LINCOLN LAWYER, with Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi, and Sidney Kimmel, based on the bestselling Michael Connelly novel starring Matthew McConaughey, Marisa Tomei, William H. Macy and Ryan Phillippe. Steindorff was an executive producer of the hit NBC series LAS VEGAS, starring Josh Duhamel and James Caan. Steindorff teamed with Paul Newman and producer Marc Platt, producing the critically acclaimed and award-winning miniseries for HBO, EMPIRE FALLS, winning a Golden Globe for Best Mini-series or Motion Picture Made for Television and receiving 10 Emmy nominations. Other feature films Steindorff has produced include GIMME SHELTER released by Lionsgate; PENELOPE, by Summit in 2008; LOVE IN THE TIME OF CHOLERA, released by New Line; TURISTAS, released by Twentieth Century Fox; and THE HUMAN STAIN, released by Miramax.
Steindorff is also a board member of the International Institute of Modern Letters, a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion, protection, and preservation of literature

Personal life

Scott currently resides in Malibu, California.
Spring 2020, Scott became a professor of practice at Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts. The program is a part of Arizona State University and he is teaching in the school of art as well as film, dance and theatre.

The miniseries Empire Falls premiered on HBO in May 2005 received 10 Emmy Award nominations and the Golden Globe Award for Best Mini-series or Motion Picture Made for Television.

Trivia

Scott Steindorff was insistent in getting the rights of Love in the Time of Cholera from Gabriel Garcia Marquez. He pursued the author for over 3 years, telling him that he was like the book's character Florentino and wouldn't give up until he got the rights.
