Sasirekha Parinayam
Sasirekha Parinayam known in Hindi as Surekha Haran is a folk tale based on oral traditions, popular in Andhra Pradesh, India. It is based on the Mahabharata, but is not present in it.
The plot concerns the marriage of Sasirekha, the daughter of Balarama, to Abhimanyu, the son of Arjuna. It echoes the marriage of Arjuna to Subhadra in the Mahabharata.
The story is popular in performances, including shadow puppets, Yakshagana and Kuchipudi.
It has been the basis for several Telugu films, including the 1936 film Mayabazar, and the popular 1957 film Mayabazar. The 2008 film Sasirekha Parinayam was also named after it.
It was adapted into Hindi movie titled Veer Ghatotkach in 1948 and was remade in 1970, from Ghatotkach's perspective. It was made into animated movie Ghatotkach Master of Magic in 2008. Maya Bazar in 1958 and again remade in Gujrati in 1984, both movies directed by Babubhai Mistry, with Mahipal and Shahu Modak starring as Krishna in each. It was also included in Balram Shri krishna 1968 movie.
