Sardar Udham Singh


Sardar Udham Singh is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language biographical film directed by Shoojit Sircar, produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar and written by Ritesh Shah and Shubhendu Bhattacharya under the banner of Rising Sun Films, and Kino Works. The film features Vicky Kaushal in the lead role of Udham Singh, a revolutionary freedom fighter best known for his assassination in London of Michael O'Dwyer, the former lieutenant governor of Punjab in India, on 13 March 1940, in revenge for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar in 1919, for then which Singh was subsequently tried and convicted of murder, and was hanged on 31 July 1940.
The film was announced on 4 March 2019, by film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh on his Twitter account, revealing the details of the film. Principal photography commenced on 30 April 2019 and shooting locations were Europe, Russia, London, Ireland, Germany and India. The first look was released on 30 April 2019. The film is scheduled for release on 15 January 2021.

Cast

The biopic film was announced on 4 March 2019. In an interview with Mumbai Mirror the director of the film Shoojit Sircar said that it was his dream to make the film on Udham Singh, he stated, "I heard the inspiring story when I was just out of college, doing theatre in Delhi. I came to Mumbai with the idea of making a film on it." He further stated, "I want to bring this largely unknown revolutionary alive on screen."
The filming started in April 2019 in London and the first schedule was wrapped up in May. The second four months schedule that started in October was shot in Russia, United Kingdom, Europe and North India.
The shoot for the film wrapped up on 27 December 2019 in Europe.

Marketing and release

The first look of Vicky Kaushal from the film revealed in April 2019. The film is scheduled for release on 15 January 2021.
