Sarah Cowley (diplomat)


Sarah Julie Cowley is a British diplomat who served as British Ambassador to Latvia between 2013 and 2017.

Biography

Sarah Cowley was educated at Wisbech Grammar School, University College London and the Open University. She worked briefly for KPMG and DLA Piper before joining the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 2005 as a Nuclear Energy Policy Officer, rising by 2009 to Private Secretary level. She was seconded to the Delegation of the European Union to Afghanistan as part of the European External Action Service in 2010–11. She headed the FCO's Olympic and Paralympic Coordination Centre in 2012. She was appointed British Ambassador to Latvia designate in January 2013 and took up the post on 21 May 2013, relinquishing it at the start of 6 June 2017. She then became Head of the Prosperity Fund Department at the FCO.
