Sagar (caste)


The Sagar is a Hindu caste.

History and origin

Sagar were traditionally farmers claimed higher status using British administrative procedures. With new name and origin myth they claimed to be officially recognized as Sagar.

Present circumstances

The Sagar are Rajputs in Gujrat and Khatri in Punjab. The Sagar are further divided into clans called ataks, the main ones being Gohil, Beladiya, Solanki, Chauhan, Aajani, Parmar, Nanera, Karena, Got, Maru, Gajnotar, and Piprotar. They are a community of large to medium sized Kshtriya sagar farmers, with many now beginning to migrate to the cities, and are in the process of getting urbanized.
Also SagarRaajput caste live in Maharastra at baramati,satara, amravati,dhuliya,etc there community are mains ones being, Tamhane,wayase,Khomane,Gawde,Gadhve,etc there know as 164 kuli Sagar-Suryavansh
It's said that their ancestor have a very long record, the origin of this caste have a very near relation with the origin of the River Ganga in India.
